alcatel Idol 3 is now receiving Android 6.0 Marshmallow update

Those who own alcatel's Idol 3 will be happy to know that the official rollout of the Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow update is now underway. This has been revealed by alcatel's Twitter account, though it's made no mention of whether both the 4.7" and 5.5" models are covered - so we assume they are.

The new software will first be headed to those units that have been purchased in the US in unlocked form. There's currently no word on when Marshmallow will make it to other locations.

According to several Reddit users who have already installed the update, the Idol 3 is much smoother in operation now. Aside from all the usual Marshmallow goodies (think Doze Mode and App Standby for better battery life, the new permissions system, Google Now On Tap, and so on), you'll also find that this update comes with the latest (June) security patches, as seen in the screenshots above.
