Xiaomi Mi Max and Mi Band 2 photographed again ahead of announcements
It’s only been a little over two months since
Xiaomi’s first big 2016 product introduction event, and although the Mi 5 and
Mi 4S phones remain largely exclusive to Chinese shores, the Android OEM cooks
up another shindig, this time in Beijing, to take the wraps off a couple extra
high-profile gadgets.
Well, on paper, the Mi Max or just Max
phablet and Mi Band 2 activity tracker look slightly lower-profile than the Mi
5 flagship handheld, but then again, the reimagined wearable is likely to roll
out worldwide and match or perhaps exceed its predecessor’s mind-blowing sales
numbers.
With an actual screen to show time, battery
status, steps taken, calories burned, heart rate and so on instead of a
rudimentary trio of LED lights, a physical button on the side, and the same
easy attachment to cheap silicon straps, the Xiaomi Mi Band 2 should cost more
than the original $15 or so model.
Still, it’s unlikely to go over the $25 mark,
which sounds reasonable. The latest leaked live pic, similar to the one
starring the fitness tracker strapped to the wrist of Xiaomi’s own CEO, hints
at a simple, straightforward design, free of unnecessary bells and whistles.
Meanwhile, the Xiaomi Mi Max or Max makes a
second appearance in a render or live image, strongly resembling last year’s Mi
Note and Mi Note Pro. A trio of capacitive buttons sits beneath the ginormous
6.4-inch or so display, leaving room for a prospective fingerprint reader only
at the phablet’s back.
The “Mi” logo is still absent, the frame
should at the very least be made of premium metal, whereas speculated specs are
downgraded from Snapdragon 820 to 650 power, with 3GB RAM, 32GB internal
storage, and 16 and 5MP cams also in tow. Just one week to go now.
