Google plans to remove SMS support from Hangouts on May 22

Google is continuing to make changes to its Hangouts app and service. Late on Thursday, the company sent an email to its G Suite administrators, informing them that SMS text messaging support for the Hangouts chat app will be removed on May 22.

The email, as posted by Droid Life, added that Hangouts users will see an in-app message, like the one shown above, starting on March 27 informing them of the planned removal of SMS services. That message will direct users to pick another default messaging app for their SMS texts. If, for some reason, they don’t have one already installed on their phone, those users will be asked to go to the Google Play Store to download an SMS app. This change will not affect Google Voice numbers, which will continue to be supported in Hangouts.

US Senate wants to let ISPs sell your web browsing history to advertisers

Last October, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) approved Internet privacy rules that would ban internet service providers (ISPs) from sharing or selling your web browsing data to advertisers without your consent. Unfortunately, the US Senate has recently voted to eliminate these privacy rules, which means that your browsing data might soon make its way to companies willing to pay for it.

The decision isn’t official yet, as the House needs to approve it first. And even if it does, President Trump has the power to keep the rules in place by issuing a veto.

Facebook Messenger gets reactions and mentions in conversations

Facebook's Messenger is continuing its quest to add as many features as possible. The latest additions are reactions (which was in testing for a while) and mentions. Both of these will be rolling out across the world "in the coming days".

You'll be able to react to any single message in a thread, and choose between seven different reactions to do so. To add a reaction you press and hold any message and then tap to select one of the following emojis that show up: love, smile, wow, sad, angry, yes, and no. Note that those last two ones can also easily be interpreted as "like" and "dislike", respectively, given the fact that they're styled like a thumbs up and thumbs down.

The Mi 6 rumors aren't solid at the moment - they point to either a 5.5" LCD or a 5.2" one, there are whispers of a Xiaomi Mi 6 running on either a Snapdragon 821 or a Helio X30 and of a higher-end version with the Snapdragon 835 chip.

Finally the rumor mill points to an April 11 event for the new flagship.

Facebook Live streaming is now possible from your desktop too

Facebook Live, the social network's live streaming functionality, became available for the masses last year. However, since then it's only been usable on mobile devices - so if you wanted to broadcast a live stream, you had to do that from a phone or tablet. Not anymore, though.
